College for me gets pretty monotonous between CATs and DAs and I'd rather spend some of that energy onto something that actually goes somewhere. I've been really into AIML since before college started. In my first year I built a few things just to understand how stuff actually works under the hood, like I made an MLP neural network for an XOR gate completely from scratch, no frameworks, just numpy and the math (backprop, chain rule, the whole thing). I also built a federated learning setup where edge devices process raw vibrational data from industrial ball bearings locally, extracting features like RMS, kurtosis, peak values ,and only send the updated model weights to a central server, not the raw data itself. And a handwritten digit recognizer trained on MNIST where you can draw a number and it guesses it. Right now me and my IDP team are working on something I'm actually pretty excited about ,a decentralized federated learning system for medical data. The idea is that hospitals train on their own patient data locally and only share model updates, so patient privacy is preserved but the model effectively learns from thousands of patients across hospitals it never directly sees.
